Sumas River Crossing
Replacement & Decommissioning

Client: Trans Mountain Pipeline & Bothar

Project Schedule: April – September 2021 

This project included the installation of 610 mm (NPS 24) – 20km east of City of Abbotsford replacement pipe, measuring approx. 405m in length. Of the 405m, approx. 300m was installed beneath the bed and banks of the Sumas River, via Direct Pipe TM (DP). Not including bends, approx. 45m was installed on the west side of the Sumas River and approx. 60m on the east side of the Sumas River via conventional trench. In addition to being the GC for Trans Mountain, we also supported Bothar in welding and lifting support for the direct pipe install. 

The scope of  work included: 

  • Mobilization & Site Access.
  • Installation of a sandpoint system for dewatering the area adjacent to the  installation of the 60” casing trench. 
  • Welding and hydrotest of both 42” casing and 24” carrier pipe. 
  • Direct pipe support for the portion of the pipe installed under the riverbed • Excavation of the banks, and eventual backfill.
  • Tie-in on the u/s and d/s sections, as well as coating.
  • Decommissioning of the flange install.
  • Support Bothar with install of 36” TMEP pipe.
