In November 2021 the Fraser, Coquihalla and Coldwater valleys in the BC Coast Mountains were impacted by several strong atmospheric river events. The TMPL, which passes through them, was affected by encroachment, avulsion, scour and bank erosion in several locations, caused by high river flows.  

The general scope of the 2nd phase of work was to protect each site from the 2022 freshet, by permanently repairing and/or upgrading site infrastructure. 

The scope included:

  • KP928.502 – Realign the river, construct downstream sill KP929.054 – Realign the river, and provide bank protection. KP938.52 – Remediate channel, floodplain, and bank armouring KP939.37 – Remove log jam.
  • KP940.005 – River realignment.
  • KP949.36 – Protect pipeline exposure. 
  • KP952.8 – River realignment to reclaim ROW and bank  armouring. 
  • KP954.36 – Remove log jam.
  • KP955 – River realignment to reclaim ROW.
  • KP962.422 – Restore channel armouring.
  • KP963.2 – Install bank armouring and filling road.
  • KP967.74 – Install rock sill downstream, divert channel KP973.241 – Berm to be installed along bank, remediate. 
  • RoW KP976.316 – Remediate failed bank armouring.
  • KP990.851 – Riverbank reconstruction.
  • KP997.1 – River realignment, and bank armouring KP1020.89 – Fully expose pipeline, check for damage, install rock  guard, backfill pipe.
