Coldwater 1 — North of Hope, BC
Revetment

Client: Enbridge

Project Value: $3,800,000

Project Schedule: June – October 2023

Due to the major flooding event in Hope, BC, the 7L1 Mainline operated by Enbridge was exposed at the Coldwater River Crossing #1. The flood caused the river to meander and formed a new adjacent channel south of the original crossing. The new avulsion channel exposed approx. 7-8m of the pipeline and pipeline weights. In emergency procedures, the south-bank was temporarily stabilized with riprap and the  pipeline was protected with temporary armouring. In the 2nd phase, OMH installed  permanent pipeline and bank protection in such a manner as to promote prevention of further exposure and bank destabilization from any future flooding events.

The project scope included:

  • Exposure of pipeline on north bank, removing existing coating.
  • Recoat, as per underground pipeline coating specs.
  • Install bank and pipeline armouring along north bank.
  • Excavate and grade new river channel, divert river into new channel • Expose pipeline on south bank and remove.
  • Concrete weights and coating.
  • Recoat, as per SOP and re-establish depth of cover.
  • Install bank and pipeline armouring along south bank.
