OMH completed a 28m pipe replacement on a 48-degree slope west of Hope, BC, employing the use of specialized equipment and niche skillsets to collaborate with supervision and field staff to achieve each phase and the preparation for the next.  

A cable crane system was required, which enabled the mobilization of portable equipment and materials to the site. This cable crane was imported from Austria and installed by experienced staff from Rigging Specialties. 

The scope of work included: 

  • Creating bridge access over Mahood Cr.
  • Re-establish shoefly access to mid-slope.
  • Excavation of selected locations for tie-in spots.
  • Excavation of selected locations for slope anchors.
  • Installation of cable crane anchors.
  • Installation of slope anchors.
  • Arrival and unloading of crane components.
  • Delivery of crane components to install location.
  • Assembly and installation of crane system.
  • Backfill existing test excavation.
  • Backfill slop anchor.
  • Excavation of target excavation.
  • Abrasive blasting and NDE of target location.
  • Preparation of pipe for outage.
  • Pipe outage and cutting of pipe.
  • Replacement of pipe sections with new pipe.
  • Completion of final NDE.
  • Return pipe to service.
  • Recoat of replacement pipe sections.
  • Preparation for backfill.
  • Install of backfill and slope stability components.
  • Removal of crane system.
  • Load out crane components for return.
  • Decommission of shoefly access.
  • Removal of bridge.
  • Site access remediation.
